Smells like calamine lotion

I really wanted to like ylang ylang. All the descriptors sounded like everything I would love—floral, fruity, creamy banana custard. However I was surprised and disappointed when I smelled the oil for myself. It smells quite sharp and bitter at first. Then the scent mellowed a little but reminded me of a medicinal scent like calamine lotion. I don’t know where the flowers and fruit and custard are but I couldn’t smell any of that, sadly.
